Document the Days That Fly By: Maternity & Family Photography That Matters

There are seasons of life where time seems to speed up, where everything is shifting, growing, changing and it’s all happening faster than you can hold onto.

Pregnancy is one of those seasons. Early parenthood is another. These are the phases that blur together in retrospect, the ones that feel slow while you’re living them but somehow disappear in an instant. And that’s exactly why I believe they’re so important to photograph.

You won’t remember every detail. But with a few honest, gentle, love-filled images you can remember what it felt like.

The Truth About Maternity Photos

I’ve had so many expecting parents tell me they weren’t sure if they even wanted maternity photos. Your body is changing rapidly. You might not feel like yourself. You might not feel your best, physically or emotionally, because, well… you’re growing a literal human.

And that hesitation makes complete sense. You should absolutely do what feels right for you.

But I’ll also say this: I’ve heard from so many people who chose not to do maternity photos… and later wished they had. Not because they wanted to glamorize anything or post a perfect bump photo online, but because that season was meaningful, messy, sacred, strange… and fleeting. And now, it’s gone.

The good news is, maternity photos don’t have to be a big production. You don’t need to be in full glam or wear a fancy dress in a windswept field (unless you want to!). A soft, 20–30 minute session in a cozy outfit you love, maybe at home, or somewhere nearby, is more than enough to give you a handful of beautiful, soulful images you’ll be so grateful to have later.

This doesn’t have to be about capturing perfection. It’s about honoring your body and your experience in a season that’s unlike any other.

Family Photos That Feel Like You

Once your baby arrives, whether it’s your first or your fourth, the speed of life doesn’t slow down. It only picks up.

Your kids change so fast. And it’s so easy to blink and miss the tiny, fleeting phases. The way they curl up on your lap. The gap-toothed smiles. The constant questions. The messes and the chaos and the deep, overwhelming love that fills your home every single day.

I love offering families the chance to freeze time, just for a moment. And just like with maternity sessions, I believe your family photos should feel like your real life. Not a posed, uncomfortable, overly formal experience.

That’s why I encourage parents to think of family sessions like a little hangout. I’ll come spend time with you doing something you already love whether that’s playing in the backyard, baking in the kitchen, having a living room dance party, or walking to your favorite ice cream spot down the street. These kinds of in-home or lifestyle sessions are especially sweet with kids, because they allow space for real personality, real moments, and real memories.

You don’t need stiff matching outfits or perfect smiles. You just need to show up as you are.

No Matter the Phase, It’s Worth Capturing

Whether you’re soaking in the strange magic of pregnancy or chasing toddlers around the park, your family will look different six months—or even six weeks—from now. These aren’t just photos. They’re the way back into a moment you’ll never get again.

So if you’re on the fence about scheduling a maternity or family session, here’s your gentle nudge: it doesn’t have to be a big thing. I’d love to help you document this season, exactly as it is. Let’s capture the joy, the chaos, the stillness, the love—and freeze it for just a second before it all changes again.
